Speckled Trout Rules

** MANDATORY CHECK-IN AT PORTSIDE MARINA. **

  • Eligible species is the King Mackerel with a minimum fork length of 36 inches from the end of its nose to the fork in the tail. This is a big fish tournament. The one biggest kingfish may be weighed per boat. That one biggest kingfish may be eligible for a primary prize.  That biggest fish alone may be eligible for secondary prizes. The biggest fish and one other fish may be eligible for one special weight prize. Boats entered in the 2 Fish Aggregate Reel Bad Boyz TWT may weigh their two biggest fish and a smaller fish to be considered for the special weight prize. 
  • All fish must be caught with rod and reel. Maximum of 6 rods fished at one time. 
  • No Checkout. No Boundaries. Boats can depart and return from any inlet. No lines in the water before 7:00 am on the day selected on the Captains registration. All boats must be in line to weigh in by 5:00 pm on the selected fishing day at the Jaycee Park docks in Morehead City, NC. All boats must be visible to a tournament official stationed at the Jaycee Park dock before 5:00 pm on the Captains selected fishing day. 
  • Only registered boats with signed boat captain entrants qualify for prizes. 
  • This is a Captains Choice Tournament. King Mackerel Captains must declare on or before the Captains meeting (Friday 13 October 2017) which day they will fish either Saturday 14 October 2017 or Sunday October 15 2017. Captains will select by marking the selected fishing day on their tournament registration form. Registration will remain open on Friday 13 October 2017 from 4:00 pm until 8:30 pm. If you do not declare a fish day, Saturday 14 October 2017 will automatically be your fish day. Again you have until the end of the Captains meeting on Friday 13 October 2017 at 8:30 pm to declare your fish day. 
  • A boat may only fish ONE day in the offshore kingfish tournament. The same boat CANNOT be fished both Saturday and Sunday. A participate may only be registered as a captain for one day in the offshore kingfish tournament.
  • Prizes to be awarded solely on basis of weight. This is a one fish, big kingfish tournament; for example, first prize will go to the boat weighing the heaviest kingfish. In case of a tie for any of the places, the first boat to weigh in will win. A boat may only win one primary prize.  A boat may win more than one secondary prize.
  • All fish must be weighed in from the boat in which they were caught. No overland transportation of fish. 
  • If the tournament is cancelled, all entry fees will be returned. 
  • The tournament rules committee has the right to modify, add, delete, or adjust any and all rules at their sole discretion. The tournament committee decisions are final. 
  • A boat member must present the eligible fish to the weigh master. 
  • The one big fish weighed per boat will be eligible for the Junior, and SHP angler secondary prizes and provided the Junior and SHP is registered as a participant with the tournament prior to tournament day and do activity participate in the tournament. The Junior Angler must be 16 years or less of age prior to 13 October 2017.  The SHP angler may be an active or retired member of the NC Highway Patrol as of the date of the Tournament. The Junior and SHP angler should accompany the fish to the weigh in if possible. 
  • All participants must comply with North Carolina Wildlife laws and USCG regulations. 
  • All boats with fish to weigh must be in line to weigh fish by 5:00 pm. Scales will open for weigh in at 3:30 pm and will be located at the Jaycee Park docks on the Morehead City Waterfront. 
  • All participants should monitor VHF channel 68.
  • The breaking of any rule will constitute disqualification from the tournament. All prize winners are subject to a polygraph at the discretion of the tournament rules committee. If requested an angler must submit to a test within 72 hours after the fish has been weighed. 
  • Captain’s meeting and registration will take place on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4 pm until 8:30 pm; location Jaycee Park Waterfront, Morehead City NC.. Awards Ceremony will be at the Jaycee Park Waterfront in Morehead City NC on Sunday 15 October 2017, 6:30 pm.
  • Each boat must provide to the weigh master their assigned Boat Number at the weigh in. 
  • All fish weighed in become property of the NCTA KMT. 
  • Any advertiser, sponsor or tournament committee member entering the tournament in compliance with the rules are eligible for any and all prizes. 
  • A crewmember may be dropped off the retrieve a boat trailer, but the vessel may not take on or off any items and the vessel cannot make landfall. 
  • No mutilated fish will be weighed. A mutilated fish is a fish that is injured so that it impacts its fighting ability. Hook and gaff punctures are acceptable. 
  • Again a boat is eligible to win only one primary prize and one special weight prize, but may win more than one secondary prize. 
  • All protest must be accompanied by $250 cash and submitted to the tournament rules committee in writing no later than one hour after the protested fish has been weighed. All decisions made by the tournament rules committee will be final. A refund will be made if the protest is upheld, if not the money will become property of the NCTA KMT. 
  • This is a Captains Choice tournament. It is the sole discretion of the captain and crew to participate. 
  • The tournament rules committee has the right to refuse entry from an applicant. In the event this occurs 100% of the entry fee will be given back to the entrant. 
  • The NCTA Offshore/ Inshore Saltwater Challenge is owned entirely by the North Carolina Troopers Association.

One to a maximum of three fish may be weighed per boat to make up the three fish aggregate weight. This aggregate weight will be eligible for one primary and other secondary prize.
  • All fish must be caught with rod and reel. Maximum of 6 rods fished at one time.
  • No Boundaries. No Checkout.  Fish must be weighed in from the boat they were caught on. No overland transportation of fish. No lines in the water until 7:00 are on the day selected on the Captains registration.   • Prizes to be awarded solely on basis of weight. This is a three fish aggravate weight tournament; for example, first prize will go to the boat weighing the heaviest three fish. In case of a tie for any of the places, the first boat to weigh in will win. A boat can weigh less than three fish and the weight may be used as that boats aggravate weight.
  • All fish must be weighed in from the boat in which they were caught. All prize winners are subject to a polygraph at the discretion of the tournament rules committee. 
  • A boat may only fish one day in the inshore speckled trout tournament... The same boat CANNOT be fished both Saturday and Sunday. A participant may only be registered as a captain for one day in the inshore speckled trout tournament.
  • If the tournament is cancelled, all entry fees will be returned.
  • The tournament committee has the right to modify, add, delete, or adjust any and all rules at their discretion. The tournament committee decisions are final. 
  • A boat member must present the eligible fish to the weigh master along with their assigned boat number. 
  • The three fish weighed (Speckled Trout) per boat weighed will be eligible for the Special Junior, and SHP angler secondary prizes provided the Junior and SHP angler is registered as a participant with the tournament prior to tournament day and do activity participate in the tournament. The Junior Angler must be 16 years of age or less prior to 13 October 2017.The SHP angler may be an active or retired member of the NC Highway Patrol as of the date of the tournament. A junior and SHP angler should accompany the fish to the scales if possible.
